💥 Reimagining a Sydney Landmark: Check out the new Nielsen (Part 1) 💥

There’s nothing like working beside the beach! The Nielsen is an iconic landmark in one of Sydney’s greatest beach-side parks.

This refurb covered three buildings (but no sea walls!). The main restaurant/Kiosk, a Beach Club/bar on the beach and an events venue, the Halbert Pavilion, behind the main Kiosk.

The Beach Club is the ultimate example of outside meeting indoors, with the beach sand literally sweeping into the building itself.

The Beach Club was completely derelict and required substantial make-good works, including repairing a leaking roof and a loose ground slab, a tricky feat to pull off without demolishing its heritage aspects.

The biggest challenge – a rotting wall, pressed against a high earth embankment and lacking waterproofing, had to be demolished and replaced with an internal drainage system. And we managed to squeeze in a commercial kitchen out the back!

BJB Architects and Larissa Orso from Larissa Leigh Interiors did an exceptional job at turning the kiosk into a charming retreat.

Well done, team! Dayne Cox, Nick Gladstone, Saaniya Kadam
